2022 Outlook Dinner
2022 OUTLOOK DINNER – POSTPONED
Due to increasing transmission rates of COVID-19 the 2022 Outlook Dinner has been postponed to a future date in 2022.
We thank our sponsors, CFA Society NC members and members of the investment community, who had registered or planned to attend the event. We look forward to seeing everyone later in 2022 after the new date for the event is announced. Please contact Sheri Gillette regarding registration refunds or other inquiries regarding the event.
This year our keynote speaker will be Mark Blyth, the William R. Rhodes ’57 Professor of International Economics and Professor of Political Science and currently serves as Director of the William R. Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance at Brown University. His topic will be:
Inflation, Grumpy Workers, Climate Change, and a New Cold War: Death and Taxes may not be the only inevitabilities in life. Using this opportunity to think ahead two years out and five years out, Mark Blyth projects likely possible futures as we haltingly emerge from COVID. His ‘hand holds’ in doing so are those new things in the world going forward that we now have to accept as inevitabilities. The first is higher, but not too high, inflation. That may not be such a bad thing because it may help solve the second new ‘thing in the world,’ which is increasingly grumpy workers. Going five years out he walks us through what happens if, as is likely, the US does pretty much zero on intensive decarbonization after 2022 and notes how that plays into the ‘already-here but sure will get colder if not hotter’ conflicts with China (and the EU). In short, back in 2008, we all wondered when we would get back to getting four percent real just for showing up. That never happened. This time around is no different. The past is not coming back and the future is not what you think it will be. And oh yes, Crypto is real, we can discuss that too.
