SUMMARY:Fintech Series-Artificial Intelligence: The New World of Asset Management
DESCRIPTION:Artificial intelligence has begun to revolutionize the practice of asset management. In pursuit of alpha\, asset managers have expanded the corpora of algorithms\, data\, and implementation techniques. AI has improved portfolio management through better price discovery\, risk management\, transactional speed and efficiency\, adherence to compliance\, and more. AI also has helped to limit the deleterious effects of human bias in investment decision making. \n\n\n\nApproaches to AI vary as widely as the range of techniques applied in both financial and non-finance fields. In asset management\, for example\, AI can take the form of deep learning\, explainable AI (“XAI”)\, and fundamental AI. These techniques have the power to create a new world of asset management\, with new products and solutions that do not fit within standard or traditional asset class constructs. \n\n\n\nInvestors have many questions for AI asset managers: How are AI techniques and products different? Where are humans involved\, if at all? Are AI managers bringing something more to the table than alpha? Does AI require additional investment governance? Does AI introduce conflicts or biases of its own? \n\n\n\nOur team of panelists is working on the leading edge of AI in asset management\, each in a different way. Moderating the panel is Lilian Quah\, CFA\, a leading voice in AI asset management. Lilian will help to address investors’ issues and questions in a conversation about the technical\, ethical\, and transformative power of AI in asset management. \n\n\n\n$5 CFANC Members (use discount code: 2021FintechNC) \n\n\n\n$20 Guests

SUMMARY:Members Only-Private Wealth Round Table
DESCRIPTION:Walking Through the ‘60/40’ into 2021  \n\n\n\nA Virtual Round Table Discussion for \n\n\n\nInvestment Professionals with an Interest in Private Wealth Management \n\n\n\nAs we leave 2020 in the rear-view mirror and prepare for the opportunities and risks of managing portfolios in 2021 and beyond\, join other CFA NC members with an interest in Private Wealth Management in discussing this top of mind topic: asset allocation themes and considerations in the context of the new year. Come network with established friends and meet new contacts; be prepared to share your thoughts and expand the discussion. The format provides a robust discussion among professional colleagues rather than a formal presentation. Each breakout room will consist of 10-20 individuals with a pre-designated moderator to facilitate a worthwhile group discussion. The moderators will recap the individual breakout discussions when we get back together as one large group. Our goal is to provide an ongoing forum to advance the NC PWM community thought leadership and the exchange of ideas. Help us make it a success.  \n\n\n\nThis Round Table Event will focus on three topics:  \n\n\n\n1)      Equities—What changes to your underlying equity exposure are you favoring to best serve your clients? We will debate positioning / potential rotation between US vs. International\, Large vs. Small Cap\, Growth vs. Value Style\, Weighting\, and Factor Strategies.  \n\n\n\n2)      Fixed Income—What are you doing with the “40%” of the allocation equation as rates approach 0%? Accepting low/negative real returns? Reaching for yield or dropping the “fixed” in a search for income? Pursuing alternative assets\, if so what and how?  \n\n\n\n3)      Capital Market Assumptions—What returns do you consider appropriate for client financial plans over the next 10-years? How are you communicating these changes to clients? What challenges are you facing in the COVID era environment relating to planning?
