SUMMARY:CLT- Fireside Chat: Diversified Real Estate Discussion with John Ockerbloom\, Head of U.S. and European Real Estate\, Barings
DESCRIPTION:Real estate debt has grown increasingly as banks have reduced their lending activity. This fireside chat with John Ockerbloom will cover the residential space\, commercial real estate\, real estate debt and construction lending. Will the massive distress on the horizon materialize or is the debt held in private funds that can extend much longer than regulated banks who were at the heart of GFC? Are the opportunities in private real estate finally competitive with other growth assets and worthy of the illiquidity? John will discuss how real estate is cyclical and compelling opportunities in equity will surface including distressed properties\, but also in asset classes such as residential that benefit from strong macro tailwinds. \n\n\n\nSpeaker Bio: \n\n\n\nJohn Ockerbloom is a member of Barings Real Estate\, a global real estate platform with extensive capabilities across both debt and equity strategies. SUMMARY:Triad-Seizing the Moment: Exceptional Opportunities in Non-Core Real Estate Investing
DESCRIPTION:Real estate trades now seem to reflect higher interest rates and certain negative factors in general economies. Trading volume is still muted. It may take several years to resolve the pervasive issue of overleverage caused by steep value declines. Lender forbearance\, work-out and loan restructuring negotiations and foreclosures take time. Conditions are ripe for a potentially extraordinary vintage period for non-core investing via recapitalizations\, GP-led secondaries and distress sales. \n\n\n\nSpeaker Bio: \n\n\n\nJustin Thibault\, CFA\, is a member of the real estate team and focuses on various investment and portfolio management activities. Prior to StepStone\, Mr. Thibault was a consultant at Courtland Partners\, Ltd.\, an international real estate advisory firm which integrated with StepStone Real Estate. Previously\, Mr. Thibault was employed with Charles Schwab & Co.\, Inc. as a senior consultant\, where he provided an array of portfolio management and investment services to the firm’s high-net-worth clientele. Mr. Thibault received a BS from Indiana University and is a CFA charterholder.
